Facilities & Equipment |
| |
At the Meadows, our surgery is equipped to a very high standard, even surpassing that of many larger practices.
Our Head Nurse Kathryn, would be delighted to show you round our facilities by prior arrangement. |
| |
Operating Theatre
This is where we carry out sterile operations on all types of small animals.
The operating theatre is fully equipped with a wide range of sterile instruments, theatre lighting and anaesthetic equipment. We are
able to carry out most types of surgery and only have to refer the most specialised operations, such as spinal or orthopaedic cases. |
| |
Anaesthetic Machines & Monitors
We use the safest and most modern anaesthetics available to induce and maintain the anaesthetic for your pet.
Your pet will be maintained throughout it's operation on a mixture of gaseous anaesthetic and oxygen supplied by a modern, well maintained machine suitable for the size of your pet.
A highly trained veterinary nurse will be responsible for monitoring the anaesthetic throughout, with the aid of a cardiac and blood oxygen monitoring machine.
Your pets safety is our highest priority. |
| |
Preparation Rooms
This area, which connects with the operating theatre, is where pets are anaesthetised, clipped and the skin is disinfected prior to surgery.
The 'prep' room is also used for non-sterile procedures such as dentistry an ear cleaning.
Pets coming in for operations are held in kennels in the 'prep' room. before and after surgery where they are supervised by the nurses, before, and especially after, their operation. |
| |
Hospitalisation Facilities
We provide hospitalisation facilities for all companion animals, from hamsters to horses!
If your animal is being hospitalised, you are welcome to visit at anytime during office hours, or phone for an update on their condition. |
| |
Laboratory Equipment
We have extensive laboratory equipment that allows us to carry out a wide range of blood, urine and skin tests, 'in house'.
This enables us to make a rapid diagnosis and begin the most suitable course of treatment as soon as possible - even if this is at night or at the weekend, when commercial laboratories are closed.
It also allows us to carry out pre-anaesthetic blood testing on the day of your pets operation to check liver and kidney functions. This helps us to provide the safest possible anaesthetic regime for your pet. |
| |
Pharmacy
We stock a wide range of medication in our pharmacy which allows us to start the treatment of your pets condition immediately after the diagnosis has been made.
Click here for info on Repeat Prescriptions. |
| |
Radiology
Our high powered x-ray machine, and modern dark room facilities, allow us to take and process x-ray's within minutes.
The law requires that small animals are sedated or anaesthetised for x-rays unless their condition would make this dangerous.
We radiograph dogs for the BVA Hip Dysplasia & Elbow O.C.D. schemes. |
| |
Ultrasound Scanner
We have an ultrasound scanner which is most often used to determine whether an animal is pregnant, but is also used to scan a range of other organs, such as heart, liver or kidneys and structures such as tendons. |
| |
Endoscope
This is a small, flexible fibre-optic camera that we use to examine internal structures.
For example, if we thought that your pet might have something stuck in it's throat, then we would use the endoscope to find it and remove it. |
| |
Dental Equipment
We carry out a free dental check at the time of your pets annual booster & health check.
If they require to have some work done on their teeth, they will be admitted for a general anaesthetic in order to have their teeth scaled with our ultrasonic scaler.
We carry a full range of dental care products and are happy to advise you on how to use them to maintain healthy teeth and gums in your pet. |
